Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Demo Impression

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance Demo Impression If you caught my latest Recent Buys post, you'd know that I got myself a copy of Zone of the Enders HD Collection which comes with a demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. I played the demo a bit and here is my impression of the game so far.

I'll be blunt, I like it. The demo is far from perfect but it's a demo so you have to give it some slack. The slashing isn't as dynamic as I thought it would be it's still pretty kickass and I like how the precision cutting comes into play against certain scenarios and enemy types where you have to slice specific body parts to expose the energy drink juice I mean fluids filled with electrolytes to replenish your health. Controlwise the game feels great and gives you the sense that this truly is an action game which Platinum Games excels at.

Basic attacks are mapped to the face buttons as well as the jump button and your action button. The shoulder buttons are mapped with the precision cutting aim, the ninja run and secondary item/weapon uses. When you go into the precision cut aim view, you aim the direction of your slice with the right analog stick while the left analog stick lets you control the camera. If you don't feel like you need to aim your slices and just want to cut up a dude into meat slices so bad, the square and triangle buttons will also work. Square acting as the horizonal slash and triangle as the vertical slash ala Soul Calibur.

Aside from nameless cyborg grunts, you also get to face a few Metal Gear Gekkos as an enemy type as well as a killer robot dog with a chainsaw tail as a boss at the end of the demo wherein some kickass music plays along for the boss fight. It's also refreshing to see crazy animated cutscenes without having to worry about some annoying quick time event prompts interrupting the action. Oh Platinum Games, you get me. I personally can't wait for the release of this game and you better be too because Raiden might have been that wussy anime pretty boy from MGS2 but now is a badass cyborg ninja who can cut you up while holding a sword with his foot.

Next DLC for Skyrim is Dragonborn

Well, that little teaser from Bethesda is indeed a new DLC for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and it's called Dragonborn. It seems like this DLC is focused on the history of the Dragonborns, and the picture above is apparently the first dragonborn. Oh, and dragon mounts! Check the trailer below.

The Dragonborn DLC will cost you 1600 MS point (20$) and will be available in Xbox Live on December 4. Just like past DLC's, the Xbox 360 gets first dibs on the content, no info yet when it will be released in other platforms.

Recent Buys: Episode 14 - Enders Optiks Revengeance

Zone of the Enders HD and Gunnar Edge

Judging from the picture above, you've already deduced what I got. But I'm still going to talk about them anyway.

Got myself a new videogame and which actually is two game in one and that is Zone of the Enders HD Collection. I got a PS2 really late in it's lifespan (2008 to be exact) and missed out on the Zone of the Enders series. I've heard a lot of good things about it, especially the second game, and the fact that they're Hideo Kojima games is reason enough for anybody to be interested in them. I'm also a huge mecha fan so I should be pretty much covered. Aside from having both Zone of the Enders games in one disc, also included is a demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. I was excited about Rising when they revealed it for the first time and got even more excited when Konami handed it over to Platinum Games, and as I've said in the previous Recent Buys, I love stuff by Platinum Games.

The second item on the list are a pair of Gunnar gaming glasses. I've been curious about Gunnars for a while but skepticism has always gotten the better of me. Curiosity finally beat out my skepticism because the only way I would be able to experience the quality of Gunnar glasses is to get a pair myself since their steep prices keep most people away. I'll test out these glasses a bit longer before I give out my opinion about them. The pair I got is called the GUNNAR Edge and goes for 3999php at DataBlitz. Told you it was steep.

Master Chief Odd Pods

Last but not least, I got myself a little figure of Master Chief from the OddPods line of McFarlane toys. It was going for half-off at the ToyKingdom warehouse sale at SM MegaMall. It's cheap, it's MightyMuggs-ish, and videogames. Till next time, guys.

Playstation Store redesigned, live right now

Just in case you didn't notice, the PS Store just got a major redesign update. I tried out the new layout and I like the new look. I never had an issue with the old design, but then again, they had that layout since the release of the online store. Guess the change was long overdue.

I've been tinkering it for quite a while now and it's definitely easier to navigate compared to the old one. Everything is neatly organized. They have also separated PS Vita and PSP content from PS3 content which is a big plus for me.

The search engine has been changed. When I was first playing around with it, I actually didn't get it at first, but as I got used to it, it was pretty easy to search through the store. What it does is when you enter the second letter in the search, the engine searches for all the possible content that start with the first two letters you added. As you add more letters, it eliminates the other letters that won't lead to any content on the store, leaving fewer letters to choose from but eventually getting closer to the content you are looking for, if it's there that is.

It looks like an entertainment for not only games but for music movies and apps, which I'm sure is what Sony was aiming for.

Give it a try right now and let us know what you think.
