Gunnar Optiks EDGE Gaming Glasses Review

If you're reading this article, then you probably play video games and/or spend a significant amount of time in front of a computer screen. Growing up, our parents would always tell us not to sit too close to the TV. I'm sure none of you listened. Neither did I. And even though most of us have LCD or LED monitors, staring into bright digital screens during most of the day can't be good. That's where Gunnar Eyewear come in.
I understand how one could be skeptical about the entire concept of Gunnar glasses because I, too, was immensely skeptical about them, yet at the same time very curious. I've looked up reviews of these brand of glasses repeatedly but I knew that could only satisfy my curiosity if I tried them myself. The pair I bought is called the EDGE. Sporting a rimless design and soft-touch thermoplastic temples, they have a good grip and are pretty lightweight.
The glasses do exactly what they say on the box. The pair magnifies your vision so you get a better view of your screen/s. I wouldn't really agree with the whole "increased contrast" part because turning everything yellow doesn't mean a sharper image, but the amber tint works by reducing the whites on your screen, which put the most strain on your eyes. I tend to not notice the yellow tint the longer I wear the optics, but I do not recommend wearing them when working on programs such as Photoshop, since working with different colors is important and the yellow tint will prove to be distracting. Aside from reduced eyestrain, I find myself being able to focus on my screen or HDTV easier when I have the glasses on. However, I will say that it took me a while to get used to them. That may be different depending on the person, but do give the glasses at least a week before you make a final decision.
For me, the two main points of my skepticism were "do the glasses work?" and what probably is the main deterrent: price. Yes, I honestly think that these glasses are overpriced. According to Gunnar, the only difference between the advanced gaming eyewear and the advanced computer eyewear are the frames, which I believe are also what dictate the difference in price.
Bottom line, Gunnar glasses do what they claim to do but are a bit on the steep side pricewise. I'd recommend getting a pair only if you have the money to burn as I feel that they are not a necessity. I got the Gunnar EDGE for 3995php at DataBlitz.
Score: 85/100
Pros: - Magnified vision - Reduces screen brightness without sacrificing detail - Reduces eyestrain
Cons: - May take a while to get used to - Amber tint is distracting when working with colors - Plastic temples tend to hurt after a while - Price
Bioshock: Infinite will have no multiplayer, says Ken Levine
Can't wait to see Bioshock: Infinite's multiplayer? Don't hold your breath. It is now confirmed that Bioshock: Infinite will not have any form of multiplayer.
Ken Levine, co-founder and creative director over at Irrational Games tweeted that there will be no multiplayer when the game ships early next year. With most triple A titles forcing any form of multiplayer in their games to come out more appealing, its great news to hear that the studio is dumping their remaining resources to the game's campaign. Bioshock is one of those game franchises that is better off without one, not every game needs to have a multiplayer component to be successful. They added multiplayer for Bioshock 2, so it was a possibility that we would see multiplayer for Bioshock: Infinite which made me fear for the worse. Ideas for multiplayer modes were in the air but thankfully nothing came to light. Kotaku reported that two multiplayer modes(One even called "Spec-Ops") was originally planned but was soon cancelled. Good riddance.
It has been a trend lately for big titles. Franchises that succeed and earn a sequel usually comes back with multiplayer to have a more appealing title, even though having such mode doesn't make much sense to the game (for example, Dead Space 2). It's good to see some studios still try to stay away from it and focuses on the single player aspect of the game that made it famous to begin with.
Bioshock: Infinite hits shelves on February 23, 2013 on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale first DLC characters will be free for the first two weeks of release
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale was just released a few days ago, but SuperBot and Santa Monica Studios are hard at work in bringing the first DLC characters into the game. The first two DLC characters for Sony's crossover fighting game will be Starhawk's Emmett Graves and Gravity Rush's Kat.
Seth Killian, former Capcom front man for their fighting games and now lead developer at Santa Monica Studios , spilled the beans on the character DLC's at Playstation's official blog a few days before game release. Emmett and Kat are still at their early stages, so no official release of the characters in action just yet. But it's important to point out that these DLC characters will be free for the first two weeks of release. So if you are having a blast with Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale and wish for more characters, keep an eye out. Future announcements about these DLC characters will come to make sure no one misses the window to download it for free.
Donkey Kong Country Returns with Migoy and Bud
I've been meaning to play this game for a while now but since it appears to be best enjoyed when playing with another person, I got my cousin Bud (PSN ID: KickinTotz) to join me.
With how crazy the stages can get, especially the minecart segments, this is surely a game that will test friendships. Expect to hear us screaming, sometimes at each other, through out the videos.
Weekend, what are you playing?
We're at the last weekend of November and like I said last week, tis the season for new releases. Did anyone get any new games? What are you playing?
Migoy: I slept through most of my Saturday and didn't really get a chance to play any game. Sunday morning is gonna be spent watching the Curleh Mustache 5 tournament over at TeamSp00ky' twitch.tv. I'll probably end up booting Super Robot wars OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED again since I'm really into it, plus it's on a handheld so you know, ease of access. Planning to play a bit more of Persona 4 Arena and hopefully remember how to play that game again and maybe this time do more than just auto-combo my way to victory.
Quash: Played some Black Ops 2 this morning. It still surprises me how people think Capture the Flag or Domination matches are still all about the kills. I'll also be playing some Street Fighter 4 with some friends, we miss the old days.
Arlie: Mass Effect 3. No spoilers please.
