AGDQ 2020's Fallout Anthology Speedrun Was Just Pure Entertainment
Awesome Games Done Quick, a semiannual speedrun charity event held in the US, is currently ongoing and will last until Sunday, January 12. I was able to catch this year’s Fallout Anthology speedrun — finishing Fallout 1, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4 under around 2 hours — and it was pure entertainment.
It was shocking to see the the first two Fallout games cleared in under 15 minutes and seeing a player clipping through walls to beat Fallout 3 as a teenager. But the methods required to beat these games in the shortest time possible wasn’t the only factor to why I was glued to watch this run from start to finish.
The Speedrunner tasked to do the run this year was Tomatoangus, a runner that took over 100K+ viewers on a two-hour ride to the Wasteland equipped with his humorous explanations and quick jokes on what was going on in the run or why it was happening. He even explained the method of how he’s going to save 40 seconds in his speedrun in a particular part of Fallout 4 with a little presentation that took longer than 40 seconds. Have a look below.

It was definitely a great watch for Fallout fans but not even close to a good run in AGDQ standards as the run failed to end in it’s estimated time of 2 hours and 5 minutes. A few errors led the run to go over the expected time but the real culprit was when Tomatoangus was in a pickle as he needed Radaway to lessen his character’s radiation levels in order to pass through a particular part in the game. This resulted in him thinking on the fly and backtracking to hunt for some Radaway. He eventually finds it and is ready to continue the run but at a cost of precious minutes as he was already past the estimated time.
As he got back on track to beat Fallout 4 and end the run, he noticed the item he needed was nearby all along.
It’s not ideal to end your run past your estimated time of completion as this event has a strict schedule, but I think Tomatoangus deserves a pass because he delivered an entertaining run I haven’t seen in a long time.

Arc System Works nailed Tokon and showed once again why they are one of the best in the genre. While it’s too soon to know if this game will perfectly fill the tag team Marvel void in the fighting game community, it launched with a respectable package perfect for everyone.
